Fall is here and it is time to get your home in shape for
the colder months ahead. Here’s a checklist to keep your home in peak condition
this winter.

□ Caulk windows and weatherstrip doors

□ Install or inspect storm windows and doors &
screens

INTERIOR

□ Have heating system checked – change filters if needed

□ Change batteries in smoke and CO detectors, check fire
extinguishers

inspected

panes

□ Vacuum air intakes and ducts in home

YARD & LANDSCAPING

□ Plant spring flowering bulbs

□ Drain fuel from gas operated lawn equipment

□ Clean and store summer garden tools

□ Drain hoses and shut off outside water valves as
temperatures drop

Allocate a space; keep everything you need in case of a power outage. Go over plan with family

□ Know how to locate & turn off water shut-off valve
in case pipes do freeze

Check your car and make sure that it’s been serviced and small problems are
taken care of. Check your tire tread and pressure, the battery and all fluid
levels. Replace windshield wipers if needed. Create a cold weather/emergency
kit and keep it in the trunk along with chains and flares. Include water, high
energy snacks, blanket(s), flashlight with spare batters, first aid kit and
jumper cables.
